Worked60,000 ÷ 200 = 300
A dental clinic spends 60,000 on Meta ads in a month and receives 200 enquiries through its lead form. Its CPL is 300. Only 20 of those enquiries book a consultation, so the cost per booked patient is 3,000.
CPL is the first price tag on growth for any business that sells after a conversation: clinics, schools, builders, B2B software. It tells you what a unit of attention costs before anyone has paid, so it is the number you can read within days rather than months.
It is also easy to game. A discount banner, a prize draw or a pre-filled form will push CPL down and fill your inbox with people who never wanted the service. A low CPL only means something if those leads go on to buy.
Once leads are flowing, the next question is how many become customers: that is cost per acquisition, and over a full relationship it feeds customer acquisition cost.
